Volunteers:
The Directors of MFS Ltd acknowledge and deeply appreciates the assistance provided by our many volunteers over the years.
You have assisted either with the ghusl, the grave preparation or the transfer of the deceased, or any other services required from time to time.
May Allah (SWT) bestow His choicest blessings upon them and reward them all abundantly and grant them the benefit of the sawab-e-jariah for their assistance. Ameen.
We have advertised a paid part time position for an assistant and would love to hear from you if you feel this may suit you.
We have offered to pay a fee for some of the services rendered by the volunteers, however all of the volunteers declined any financial payment for their assistance, and want to do this for the sake of Allah SWT.
The directors of MFS Ltd have instead opted to donate an amount for each funeral into our Charitable Fund Account in the name of our volunteers. So our volunteers not only get the sawaab (reward) for their services, but also for the contribution into this fund. This Fund is used to pay for the funeral of a person who is considered to be financially destitute at the discretion of MFS.
We acknowledge and thank all our Volunteers and our many Imams who assist us over the years. May Allah SWT reward them all.
Special thanks also to our female volunteer team headed by Umm Youcef Kouidri and her team Aziza Gujari, Umm Fadi, Nadira Djaker and all the other sisters who assist them.
We have a large team of male volunteers, many have joined and left over the years due to work and personal commitments. Thank you to all.
We also acknowledge the services and advice of all our Imams, Imam Akram Buksh, Imam Riaz Seedat, Imam Imran Hussain, Qari Fida-ur-Rahman, Imam Yusuf Peer, Imam Uzair Akbar, Imam Ahmed Naffaa and the Council of Imams Qld (CIQ).
We at MFS are proud to have such a dedicated team behind us, and the community is eternally grateful to each of you, and may Allah SWT grant you all, the sawab-e-jariah for your contribution.
We are blessed with young and the not so young, all of whom give up your valuable time, and are here at the drop of a hat day and night, and we are most grateful.
As the number of burials have increased over the years, the demand on us has grown and so has the numbers of volunteers.
We understand that some volunteers may only be available sometimes only, based on work or family commitments.
But with all of what we do, comes some responsibility, duty of care, and workplace health & safety rules which we all have to abide by.
So, we felt it important to discuss some of these, so you are fully aware.
These may appear obvious to some, but it’s important that we all understand these as volunteers.
Most of you know that MFS is a not for profit private company, and all proceeds continue to run the company, and none of the Directors benefit financially from MFS. We run the company as a business to be self-sufficient.
FYI Fees: An approximate breakdown of the fees is as follows:
Local council fees (which varies annually and depending on weekend and overtime charges) + the Ghusl Facility fee of $150 + Kaffan $150 + the Grave preparation fee (including box and timber slats) of $350 + the death certificate application fee of $50 payable to the Department of Births, Deaths and marriages, and lastly the MFS fee of $1000. Of the MFS fee we pay our drivers, pay our cleaner, pay our membership and per funeral fee to the AFDA.
Whilst we appreciate all your support, I am sure you will understand the constraints we work under, and you will continue to help us improve and grow to serve the community.
There are some of you whom we are indebted to, for just being there, ANYTIME and EVERY time. You know who you are and may Allah SWT reward you abundantly.
If you understand all of the above and are happy to still volunteer your services, you MUST complete this online form, so that we have your details, as part of our duty of care as a company, for legal requirements.
You may be required to get a police clearance.
It is our intention to have sincere committed individuals, who are able to perform all duties with care and compassion, and have the ability to work as a team in a harmonious manner.
MFS reserves the right to vet and approve each applicant at the discretion of its Directors. All fields must be completed.

So, we felt it important to discuss some of these, so you are fully aware.
These may appear obvious to some, but it’s important that we all understand these as volunteers.
- We are volunteers and offer our services for the sake of Allah SWT as a duty to our community
- Remember that we have a duty to be soft, caring, and keep our cool at difficult times.
- The family is mourning their loss, and we have to treat them and the Janaza with the care, compassion, understanding and patience we would expect if the deceased was our family member.
- Our colleagues in the Funeral industry say that the Funeral and burial is more for the living than the dead, and keeping the family happy is crucial. Whilst that is true, as Muslims we know that the janaza and respect for the Janaza is equally or even more important.
- We must be mindful of workplace health and safety at all times for ourselves and those around us – this includes but not limited to using and wearing protective gear from gloves, aprons and masks, and slide boards provided to move the Deceased.
- Know that at times there is a possibility that the deceased could be suffering from an infectious disease, so you are advised to take extra care and precaution to protect your self.
- Dress code for separate roles are important. Non-slip shoes in the ghusl room to prevent falls from slipping on spilled water. Usually personal protective items provided.
- Appropriate behaviour during the Ghusl, being quiet and avoiding chatting about worldly or social chat. Respect for the Janaza and next of kin who are mourning their loss.
- Avoid direct body fluid contact.
- Asking for assistance to lift or shift the janaza at ALL times.
- Be mindful of safety in handling all equipment including trolleys, lifts etc.
- Posture be maintained for all lifting. Try to avoid unnecessary injury to yourself and others.
- There is no WorkCover insurance available for volunteers in Qld unfortunately, for of any sort for any injuries.
- So there is no Indemnity provided by MFS for any duties or injuries sustained.
- Volunteers must be adults only, so don’t bring in young volunteers.
- Be mindful of any friends you recommend to volunteer. Not everyone is mentally geared to do this work and never force someone to join if they express any concerns or fears.
- Everything that you hear or see in the Ghusl room with regards to the ghusl or janaza must NEVER be discussed outside the room.
- The work we do not only represents MFS as a company, but also represents the Muslim community to the rest of the community. This includes interactions and behaviour with the family, the police, the mortuary staff, the hospital staff, the coroner’s office, the cemetery and council staff. At the cemetery and during the process interaction with non-Muslims as well may occur and your behaviour represents us all
- Appropriate dress code for the hospital or mortuary or cemetery excludes sandals, shorts, track pants, and jeans.
- We provide our regular the volunteers who do the hospital and cemetery duty with shirts / jackets / vests to use, please use these to look professional.
- For our drivers, having a valid driver licence, driving and obeying the rules of the road and speed limits at all times is mandatory. Drivers are responsible for any traffic offences and demerit points you may receive whilst the vehicle is under your control.
- As a volunteer if there is anything we need or are short of of any supplies, please let us know.
- For our records each of you will need to complete a form with your details, including next of kin and driver licence ID.
- Kindly record your and other assistants for the Ghusl in the book provided.
- Also record the time in and out and destination in the log book in the vehicles.

" A Muslim has five rights upon other Muslims: responding to his salam, answering his invitation (to food), making Tashmeet when he sneezes, visiting him when he is sick, and following his Janazah when he dies." (Bukhari and Muslim).
