About MFS
Muslim Funeral Services Ltd (MFS) was established in 2010 to fulfill the role of the Funeral Director to the Muslim Communities across all of the Brisbane and Gold Coast suburbs. It is a result of joint efforts between Brisbane Muslim Burial Services Inc (BMBS) team and the Gold Coast Islamic Society burial committee. These services have until 2010 been outsourced.
The services we provide includes all the transport arrangements for the deceased, including the pick up of the janaza (deceased) from the home, hospital or mortuary, transport to the local mosque or ghusl facility, where the ghusl (washing) and shrouding will be performed, and then the final transport to the local cemetery.
We also liaise with the local councils to book the grave site for burial and complete all the necessary paperwork and regulatory requirements including registration of the death with the appropriate government department.
Our office, ghusl and mortuary facilities are based at the Kuraby Musjid, 1408 Beenleigh Road, Kuraby, Qld 4112, but you may choose to have the ghusl performed at any other facility.
Although we are based at the Kuraby Musjid and use its facilities, we are an autonomous private company formed for the benefit of the entire Queensland Muslim Community, and are not a part of any Musjid or Islamic society.
We acknowledge the support of the Trustees of the Kuraby Mosque.
Alhamudulillah we have been able to provide our services for approximately 60-70 funerals per year across South East Queensland, including Harvey Bay and Rockhampton and have repatriated or received deceased remains to Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and India and the United Kingdom.
MFS Ltd is a privately funded company and is managed entirely by volunteers, and operates as a non-profit business entity.
We do employ staff or contract out some of our services.
All proceeds from the business are utilised to provide ongoing funeral services within the Muslim Community, and none of our Directors or committee members benefit financially from MFS Ltd or our activities.
All we request in return is that you remember us and our volunteers kindly in your Duas (prayers).
We also pray that Allah (SWT) guides us to provide this essential service to the best of our ability within the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah for the benefit of the Muslim community.
Alhamdulillah, we are very fortunate to have benevolent donors within our community who have generously contributed to the initial establishment costs of the business including the purchase the vehicles we use for transfers / burials.
We, at MFS sincerely appreciate their generosity and pray that Allah (SWT) grants them the sawab-e-jaria they truly deserve for their noble gesture.
Alhamdulillah, MFS is now self funded autonomous organisation and no longer requires funding or donations to run the organisation.
The MFS Committee also acknowledges and deeply appreciates the time and effort of all the brothers & sisters who are volunteering their services to us on an ongoing basis. May Allah (SWT) reward you for your time and effort.
Our volunteers have been offered remuneration for their services, but have declined in lieu of the sawab-e-jaria for their services.
All attempts are made to provide our services within the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, and we welcome any suggestions or constructive comments you may have to assist us in improving our services. .
Although we try to accommodate different cultures, all funerals are to be within Islamic practice we will not be party to any act or practice outside of generally accepted Islamic principles.
If you have a specific cultural requirement outside of those we offer, you will need to advise us at the time booking our services, and if the request is within Islamic practice then we will be happy for you to arrange this through your own Imam, mosque or community.
An example is if he deceased is from a specific community and the family requests that the Ghusl or Janaza Salah to be performed by members of their community, then the family will be expected to arrange and co-ordinate this with their community members or Imam.
An example of an unacceptable request - "my wife or mother was a fashionable women and I'd like to bury her with some of her jewelry" or "we want to place some personal effects in the grave". This will be considered an un-Islamic request.
MFS fulfills the role of the FUNERAL DIRECTOR and is not responsible for arranging a specific Imam or religious service. Although we may facilitate the services of an Imam at the Mosque for the Janaza salaah, it is not our responsibility. It is the responsibility of the family to discuss and arrange this and any specific prayer or recitation required at the graveside with the local Imam or one from their community.

Hadrat Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) as saying, "Among the actions and good deeds for which a believer will continue to receive reward after his death, are knowledge which he taught and spread, a good son whom he left behind, or a copy of the Qur'an which he left as a legacy, or a mosque he built, or a house which he built for the traveler, or a stream which he caused to flow, or a sadaqa which he gave from his property when he was alive and well, for which he will continue to receive reward after his death."
